Dover manager Martin Hayes threatened Dover FA Cup axe
Hayes led Dover to the FA Cup first round for the second time in 28 years
Dover manager Martin Hayes has revealed he told his team none would play in the FA Cup against Gillingham, following a poor first-half display at the weekend.
The Whites go to Gillingham in the first round on Saturday, and were given a dressing down following the goalless first half of their 4-1 victory.
Hayes told BBC Radio Kent: "I told them the chairman would give me money for 11 loan signings next week.
"It was painful to watch, but second half we showed a better attitude."
Hayes added: "I thought a lot of them didn't want to play next week.
"I suppose it's tough - they'd had a massive win Tuesday and it was a bit like after the Lord Mayor's show.
"We addressed things and second half we showed a bit more fight."
On Saturday, Dover visit Gillingham for their FA Cup first-round tie, whose boss Andy Hessenthaler and assistant manager Ian Hendon are both former Dover managers.
