Students make FA Cup progress

Team Bath, the first student team to play in the FA Cup for 122 years, have reached the first round proper of the competition with a penalty shoot-out victory over Horsham.

The students, who play in the Western League premier division, were level at 1-1 after extra-time in the home replay of their fourth qualifying round tie in front of 1,581 fans.

They then won the shoot-out 4-2 to earn a home tie with Mansfield, who are bottom of the Football League's second division.

No student team has played in the FA Cup since Oxford University and Cambridge University took part in the 1879/ 1880 season.

Oxford University won the Cup in 1874 but, after losing the 1880 final to Clapham Rovers, never played in the competition again.
