Ballack has endured a wretched season for Bayern Munich but remains a key player for Rudi Voeller's German side. The free-scoring midfielder has struggled at Munich since his 14.5m move from Bayer Leverkusen in 2002.
He scored 17 league goals for Leverkusen during a stellar 2001/02 season which culminated in a Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.
The 27-year-old scored a number of vital goals during Germany's Euro 2004 qualifying campaign.
He also notched up three goals at the 2002 World Cup including the winner against South Korea in the semi-final.
His goal in that match came just minutes after he received a booking ruling him out of the final against Brazil.
Did you know? Ballack was Germany's Player of the Year in 2002.
