Versatile Torsten Frings has emerged as a real mainstay of the German midfield under Rudi Voeller. He began his career as a striker at Werder Bremen before being shifted to a right wing-back role to exploit his boundless stamina.
But only when he moved inside did he begin to really shine earning him a lucrative move to Borussia Dortmund.
His willing running takes a lot of the workload off talisman Michael Ballack and plays a crucial role in the team.
Injury kept him out of the first half of the 2003/04 Bundesliga season but his return prompted an upturn in fortunes for Dortmund.
With the German club in financial difficulties, Frings could well be in the shop window in Portugal.
Did you know? Frings is an animal lover and lived on a farm with his family during his time in Bremen.
