| Saturday, 18 January, 2003, 17:01 GMT Djorkaeff punishes Charlton ![]() Djorkaeff's moment of magic was worth the wait Charlton 1-1 Bolton Youri Djorkaeff's wonderful equaliser made Charlton pay for their failure to take their chances at The Valley. Mark Fish's scrambled second-half goal looked like being good enough, but the Addicks spurned a host of chances to make the game safe. And Djorkaeff's fantastic overhead kick rescued a valuable point for Bolton in their battle against relegation. Both teams started scrappily as Bolton's nervousness seemed to spread to the home side too. After 15 minutes Bolton defender Simon Charlton picked out Michael Ricketts with a 50-yard pass, but the striker's header went wide. Five minutes later, Charlton went close when a loose ball fell nicely for Radostin Kishishev on the right edge of the box but his half-volley flew just beyond the far post. The near-miss sparked the home team into life with Claus Jensen increasingly involved. On 23 minutes Kishishev's lovely ball released Jensen on the right and the midfielder forced a good save out from Jussi Jaskelainen.
The Bolton keeper was called into action again when Mark Fish got on the end of Kishishev's free-kick but his goalbound header was pushed to safety. For his part, Djorkaeff looked a class above his team-mates throughout. And his cross after 38 minutes deserved better than Henrik Pedersen's tame header into Kiely's arms. Jensen and striker Shaun Bartlett again went close for the home side before the break as Charlton failed to translate their dominance into goals. But just one minute into the second half that all changed as Bolton failed to deal with Jensen's free kick. But Charlton's recent inability to kill teams off resurfaced with Jason Euell and Kevin Lisbie wasting several chances to put the game beyond Bolton. And the home side were made to pay for their lack of sharpness in front of goal. With five minutes to go, Per Frandsen chipped the ball into the box and with his back to goal. Djorkaeff lashed a wonderful overhead kick into the far corner of the net.
