Spurs inflicted Leeds' sixth defeat in nine games with a 2-0 win at White Hart Lane - and left Ridsdale admitting results were "not acceptable." He said: "We have to get it right sooner rather than later. Being a football manager is all about results and you do not have to tell anybody that to lose five out of seven games at home is not acceptable". Venables has admitted he is "concerned" he might not be given the time to turn around Leeds' flagging season. The Leeds boss - who was missing 11 players through injury and then lost Nick Barmby in the warm-up with an Achilles problem - admitted results "were not good enough" and recent criticism was justified. "I know things have to change, of course results are unacceptable, but we have 11 players out injured and that is a very difficult situation to manage," said Venables. "You are going to get criticism, you expect it in the game. I have had it before and it is justified because I believe we should be doing better.
"I don't worry I might not be given enough time but I am concerned. "If worrying helped I would be doing it all the time, but I am concerned about things and everyone involved has got to be strong and try to work through it," added Venables. However, Spurs boss Glenn Hoddle is backing Venables to get it right at Leeds - if he is given the time to turn around the club's flagging fortunes. "Terry has got the right pedigree and the right people around him, and the right squad when they are all fit to turn things around if he is given the time and patience to do it," said Hoddle. Meanwhile, Hoddle was full of praise for former Leeds striker Robbie Keane, who capped a superb display with a fine goal. "When you play your old team it seems to be human nature that you have a spring in your step," said Hoddle. |
