Division One's rising stars
Millwall's Cherno Samba
Millwall's Cherno Samba is very highly rated

The Nationwide League starts on Saturday - and with cash problems hitting clubs hard, young players are likely to get their chance to impress.

BBC Sport Online picks out six footballers ready to take Division One by storm.

Cherno Samba - Millwall

Few will have heard of Cherno Samba but he is a striker who has already been pursued by a number of Premiership clubs.

Frequently compared to Michael Owen, the 16-year-old is an England schoolboy international.

He has been linked with numerous top-flight clubs, including Liverpool, Leeds and Arsenal.

And he is set to make the first-team breakthrough at Millwall this season.

Samba went on the recent pre-season tour of Scandinavia - the first time he has been included in the first-team squad.

Sensationally quick, Samba is set to make his mark this season and few doubt he will soon become a household name.

Matthew Piper - Leicester

The Leicester winger made his first-team debut last season and then went out on loan to Mansfield to gain valuable experience.

Piper returned to the Foxes after his spell at Field Mill and made a big impression in a struggling side - starting 14 consecutive games.

He was rewarded for his fine form with the last goal at Filbert Street in the 2-1 win over Spurs.

After cutting his teeth in the top-flight, 20-year-old Piper seems set to make a real impression in Division One.

Lionel Morgan - Wimbledon

Lionel Morgan is a midfielder that many experts predict has a very bright future.

The left-footer is an England Under-19 international and is not short on confidence - he has already talked about his hopes of winning full international honours.

Tottenham-born Morgan has been at Wimbledon since he was 10 and made his first-team debut for the Dons aged 17 in 2000.

He can play on the left wing or in the centre of midfield and is hoping to take centre stage this season.

But he has struggled with injuries and is currently out until Christmas with damaged knee ligaments.

Joleon Lescott - Wolves

Joleon Lescott is a already a wanted man.

The England Under-21 defender has been linked with a whole host of Premiership clubs following a series of accomplished performances for Wolves last season.

But the 19-year-old defender committed his future to Wolves by signing a new five-year deal this summer - ending the hopes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Blackburn.

The Birmingham-born defender joined Wolves as a trainee and is now a regular in the heart of the club's defence.

Expect Lescott to play a pivotal role as - once again - Wolves try and win promotion to the Premiership.

Leon Knight - Sheffield Wednesday

Knight has just joined Wednesday for a season-long loan from Chelsea.

The 19-year-old striker has first-team experience following a successful loan spells at QPR and Huddersfield.

While at Town he scored 17 goals, helping the team surge up the table and into the play-off zone.

Fast and with a keen eye for goal, Knight undoubtedly has the ability to succeed at the top level - but is happy to continue learning his trade in Division One.

With Lloyd Owusu - signed from Brentford during the summer - Knight should form a strike partnership to worry any defence.

Ricardo Fuller - Preston

Striker Ricardo Fuller joined Preston in the summer from Jamaican club Tivoli Gardens.

Preston manager Craig Brown has been raving about the 22-year-old, promising the club's fans a player with a full bag of tricks.

Skilful on the ball and an intelligent team player, Fuller should also have no problem adjusting to the rigours of the English game after a spell on loan with Hearts last season.

He made his home debut in a recent friendly against Manchester City and quickly won over the home fans - a promising season beckons.
