James Reid praises 'progressive' AFC Telford United

New AFC Telford United signing James Reid has set himself the target of returning to the Football League with his new side.

Reid, 21, came through the youth ranks at Nottingham Forest but made only one first team appearance for the Reds.

"Telford are a progressive club who match my own ambitions - and that's the Football League," the winger told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"I had other Conference offers, but Telford was always my first choice."

After making his first-team debut as a substitute in a Championship game against Barnsley in November 2008 Reid struggled to make any further progress in the Reds squad.

The following season he was loaned to Rushden and Diamonds - before moving on to Hinckley in the Blue Square Bet North for the 2010/11 season.

"I had a good season there, and it was a stepping stone back for me and I see Telford as another step forward," Reid continued.

"Telford are a big club with a lot of ambition, their manager is very professional and someone who inspires his players.

"I've played in the Conference and I know Telford can do well in it.

"I think they can make it all the way (to the Football League), and I want to be part of that."
