New signing Robbie Williams backs AFC Telford ambitions
Williams has won three Welsh under-23 caps
Robbie Williams has marked new club AFC Telford United as a side to make a real impact in the Blue Square Bet Premier.
The defender has signed from Altrincham as the Bucks, reformed seven years ago, prepare for their first first season in the top flight of non-League football.
He told BBC Radio Shropshire: "There'll be big crowds and the euphoria round the club will make a real buzz.
"They had a great defensive record last season, they can score goals, and I know they can handle the Conference."
Williams was also sold on the club by Telford manager Andy Sinton.
"Andy was great," Williams said after putting pen to paper on his contract.
"He told me he was looking for someone with a bit of experience in the Conference. I've done that with 100-odd games for Altrincham, and he wants me to pass on my experiences to the other players.
"But he also stressed how we will all work together, how he does his best to get players to improve, and that's good for me too."
The Wales Under-23 international is looking forward to returning to Shropshire having started his career at Oswestry-based The New Saints.
"The New Saints gave me a great grounding - full time in the Welsh Premier League, training every day, it gave me as a young player the chance to practice all your skills and all the technical aspects of the game.
"TNS played good football, liked to have it on the deck, and being a big defender that's the sort of stuff I needed to improve on rather than just the heading and kicking.
"It provided a good experience for me to improve - and so will Telford."
