Gainsborough boss Brian Little targets run of victories

Gainsborough Trinity

Manager Brian Little says Gainsborough Trinity have to keep up a winning run to stay safe in Blue Square Bet North after a 2-1 victory at Nuneaton Town.

Leon Mettam and Ryan Kendall scored as Trinity extended their gap over second from bottom Stafford to six points.

Little told BBC Lincolnshire: "We're a step closer. Six points is decent, it's not brilliant but it's better than it was a couple of weeks ago.

"The solution is simple - if you keep winning football matches, you stay up."

Mettam gave Trinity a 23rd-minute lead, following up from close range after a Kendall shot was parried.

If we can keep it up the other teams will be looking at us and thinking they can't catch us

Nuneaton levelled through Kyle Storer's free-kick on 53 minutes but Kendall restored the Blues' advantage eight minutes later, heading home Ryan Williams' cross to clinch a second successive victory.

The win was all the more important after fellow strugglers Hyde beat Hinckley United to leave Stafford occupying the final relegation place.

Little said: "I had a feeling Hyde would win, so ours was a very important result.

"I thought we deserved to win, I thought we were the most competent side on the day. It was a great performance, a gutsy performance and I don't think they bothered us too much, apart from set pieces.

"If we can keep it up and win again next weekend the other teams will be looking at us and thinking they can't catch us."
