AFC Telford prepare plans for Football League status

AFC Telford census
Telford want fans' thoughts on the club

AFC Telford have set up a review of the whole club, in a bid to help move them towards a place in the Football League.

"We've been going upwards for seven years since the old Telford went bust, but we can't be complacent," chairman Lee Carter told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"Our aim is still Football League status, and we've got to be sure that we're geared up for the challenge."

Business experts Michael Frater and Pete Jackson will examine every aspect of the club's on and off-field affairs.

Frater, a former chief executive of the local council, and Jackson are both Telford fans, and are offering their services free of charge.

"There's so much to this club - not just the team," said Jackson, citing the community programmes Telford have put in place as a fans-run club.

Frater added: "Sometimes it's all to easy for those running a club or a business to get caught up in the day-to-day affairs and be deflected from the longer-term future.

"The club has the potential to be what it wants to be, but perhaps sometimes the ideas don't get surfaced. We want to capture those ideas and use them as the basis for moving forward."

The pair have started the ball rolling with a census about the club for fans, employees, sponsors, user-groups - and any other interested parties.

Their top-to-toe review of the club will follow later this month, with a special report back to the board.

The club are favourites to be promoted via this season's play-offs to the Blue Square Bet Premier - just one step below the Football League.
