Ebbsfleet chairman Phil Sonsara says it could be difficult for United to keep their squad together due to on-going financial problems.
Fleet are owned by the website MyFootballClub, but of the 4,200 fans that subscribed last year, only 1,500 have so far renewed their membership.
Sonsara told BBC Radio Kent: "Players will want to look after their careers.
"If it looks like we're not going to make the play-offs then they might want to keep their options open."
Fleet boss Liam Daish has been forced to rebuild his squad from scratch in each of the last two seasons after having his playing budget slashed.
But despite being relegated from the Blue Square Premier last season, Daish's latest squad currently lie second in Blue Square Bet South.
"I know full well that this squad has enjoyed being at the club this season and we've enjoyed having a good team around," added Sonsara.
"But their personal ambitions may be higher - that's going to be the realistic situation we will have to face."
