Hessenthaler regrets giving Gillingham promotion tag
Hessenthaler was brought back to Priestfield in the summer
Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler says that labelling his side as promotion favourites at the start of the season put too much pressure on them.
The Gills are now hoping for at least a play-off place, having climbed up from the bottom three in League Two to seventh place since November.
"We made noises at the start of the season and perhaps it was the wrong thing to do," he told BBC Radio Kent.
"We've taken every game as it comes since then and we're on a good run."
He continued: "It's just a shame about the really bad start.
"But we can't do anything about that we've just got to concentrate on what we're doing now.
"We're in fantastic form - nine games unbeaten.
"There are a few draws in there but if we can go on that winning run now we'll be right in the mix, so we're looking forward to Tuesday night now at Southend."
