Redditch United boss Matt Gardiner aims to avoid drop
Redditch have a small but vocal following but are looking to add to it
Redditch boss Matt Gardiner believes his side can avoid relegation from the Blue Square Bet North this season.
The Reds, who are bottom of the table, take on Gainsborough Trinity at Valley Stadium on Saturday.
"We have managed to shore things up and I know every manager is looking for it but we need a bit of consistency," he told BBC Hereford & Worcester.
"We need a few goals and if we can do that then we'll be OK but if we don't we are going to be deep in trouble."
Redditch have won only two matches in the league this season and despite being level with Stafford are six points from safety.
Gardiner accepts that Redditch can not compete financially with the division's leading clubs but is still scouting around for new players.
"We're looking around but obviously we can't compete with the clubs at our level," he added.
With Blues and Villa playing each other on Sunday, Wolves away at Man City and only the Baggies at home on Saturday it would be great if we could encourage a few more down to Valley Stadium
Redditch secretary Tim Delaney
"We are looking to pick up people who are on their way back from injuries who have had issues elsewhere.
"We are just trying to put them back on the straight and narrow and go from there."
Redditch have traditionally struggled to attract fans to Valley Stadium for home matches but they moved to entice more of a family audience for the game against Gainsborough.
The board has offered a family ticket for two adults and two children under the age of 16 at a cost of £12.00 as they try to generate more local support for the club.
Redditch secretary Tim Delaney said they are hoping the lack of Premier League action on Saturday 15 January will work to their advantage.
"With Blues and Villa playing each other on Sunday, Wolves away at Man City and only the Baggies at home on Saturday it would be great if we could encourage a few more down to Valley Stadium," he said.
"It would be a good chance to experience the delights of the local non-league football scene at a reduced price.
"Also for those long-standing Villa fans it is a great opportunity to renew their acquaintance with the Villa legend Brian Little, who is now manager of Gainsborough Trinity."
