Players boycott Great Yarmouth game

Great Yarmouth Town assistant treasurer Arthur Fisk insists the club will continue to exist and admits the board have made mistakes in the past.

The financially struggling Bloaters are currently in a dispute with players over expenses claims.

Fisk told BBC Radio Norfolk: "Yarmouth Town Football Club will survive.

"We have made mistakes, but I tell everybody now, we have a stand there that's wonderful, and we're not going to let that go."

Yarmouth had to use a host of reserve team players in Tuesday's Norfolk Senior Cup tie against King's Lynn, as only four senior squad members turned up to play.

Those who were absent were striking because they believe they are owed £5,000 between them in expenses.

"We have a problem in the club, we realise that, and we're all concerned by it," Fisk added.

Great Yarmouth reserve boss Kevin Cruickshank

"Currently we are working very, very hard to rectify the position so next year we start off with a clean sheet."

Attendances have plummeted at the Wellesley Ground this season, with 32 coming to Saturday's 2-1 Ridgeons Premier Division defeat by Histon Reserves.

Ninety-two watched the Bloaters lose to King's Lynn, although most of them were visiting supporters, and Yarmouth reserve team boss Kevin Cruickshank has called on locals to back the team.

"It needs to be supported, when you look at the gates, 32 last Saturday, that's very poor for an area the size of Great Yarmouth," said Cruickshank, who led the side against the Linnets as manager Paul Tong was showing solidarity with the striking players.

"We just don't get the support and we don't know why."

But the stand-in boss was full of praise for his battling side, despite seeing them lose 5-1.

"They put their heart and soul into it and gave everything," he said.

"When you think you've got the reserves' two leading goalscorers playing centre-half - they did brilliantly."

King's Lynn will face either Wroxham or Cromer Town in the quarter-finals of the Norfolk Senior Cup on 8 January.
