Nicky Law relieved at Alfreton Town's return to action

Alfreton Town

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law says it was a huge relief to get back on the pitch for the FA Trophy win over Hyde.

The cold weather and FA Cup exit meant the Reds had not played for nearly four weeks before Tuesday's 3-0 success.

But Law's men progressed through to a second round tie against Cambridge United thanks to goals from Matt Wilson, Laurie Wilson and Paul Clayton.

"We desperately needed the game to blow the cobwebs off," Law said. "We were way below par but it was a good win."

Weather permitting, Alfreton face Gloucester City at the Impact Arena on Saturday.

And Law says it is crucial that his side, who have signed 21-year-old centre-half Paul Lister from Blue Square Bet North rivals Hinckley United, make maximum use of their squad in the coming weeks.

"We have increased the squad size to 20 because we knew there was no way we were going to get through the next month or two with only 16 or 17 players," Law added.
