AFC Telford manager Andy Sinton wary of FA Cup upset
Andy Sinton's Telford side are still unbeaten in 12 league and cup games
Telford boss Andy Sinton has warned his players about the dangers of FA Cup upsets when they host Buxton in Tuesday night's third qualifying round replay.
After Saturday's 1-1 draw at Buxton, Telford hope to finish the job against the Evo-stik Premier League side.
But Sinton admits: "This is a potential upset. The best team on the night will win. Let's hope it's us."
Sinton's caution is fuelled by his memories of beating Manchester City in the FA Cup in 1989 while at Brentford.
Admittedly, City were then only a Second Division side, while Brentford were handily placed just one rung below in Division Three.
But, as Sinton points out: "Man City were in the top five. We beat them 3-1. It happens year after year."
Sinton's Bees side made it all the way to the FA Cup quarter-finals that year, the club's best run in 40 years, which saw them beat Peterborough, Walsall, Manchester City and Blackburn before bowing out 4-0 to eventual winners Liverpool.
Andy Sinton made 149 appearances in his days at Griffin Park with Brentford
Tuesday night's prize is the slightly lesser one of a fourth qualifying round trip to Fleetwood Town on 23 October.
And, although his side are yet to lose under his command, Sinton admits that he might consider alterations, his side having only drawn three out of their last four games.
"I have been thinking about making a few changes for a couple of weeks," he said.
"The lads have done great. We're 12 games unbeaten and that's absolutely fantastic.
"But we've got to start making these tight games end in our favour."
