Ilkeston pin hopes on appeal over winding up petition

Ilkeston Town

Ilkeston Town manager Kevin Wilson says an appeal has been launched against the High Court's decision to wind the club up because of an unpaid tax bill.

The Robins are still hoping they will be able to fulfil their Blue Square Bet North fixture at Redditch on Saturday.

Lawyers acting for the club had pleaded with the court to give them more time to pay the outstanding £50,000 debt.

"There is an appeal going on but the light is getting smaller in the tunnel," Wilson told BBC Radio Derby.

HM Revenue and Customs pressed on with the winding up petition with the club being described as "plainly insolvent" by the court.

We have to look forward and hope something can come out of the dust

But Wilson added: "In my heart of hearts I did feel this would probably happen.

"It's a real sad day because there is a lot of hard work put in by a lot of people there and a lot of the work is voluntary.

"But we have to look forward and hope something can come out of the dust. It would be easy to point fingers but hopefully Ilkeston Town can come through it."
