AFC Telford United are close to signing teenage former Birmingham City defender Jacob Rowe.

Rowe, 19, played over 20 games for Blues reserves last season and has had trials with Leyton Orient, Port Vale Cheltenham and Tamworth since.

"He's come out of Blues and he's been training with Rochdale," boss Andy Sinton told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"He wants to come, we may include him in the squad for Saturday. He's a very highly rated player."

Sinton has also held talks with defender Will Salmon, who played for him at Fleet Town was at Ebbsfleet United in the Blue Square Premier last season.

The Bucks are short of cover in defence with left-back Sean Newton struggling with a swollen knee and Martyn Naylor waiting to gain international clearance from the Football Association of Wales.

Meanwhile utility man Philip John, who also played at Fleet Town, is also holding talks with the club.

Telford play Hyde in their first league match in the Blue Square Bet North at the New Bucks Head.
