Yates currently has 18 players in Cheltenham's first team squad
Cheltenham boss Mark Yates says he will reduce the number of trialists for his side's second pre-season match.
The Robins used seven on-trial players in Saturday's 0-0 draw at Leamington and Yates will cut that number for Tuesday's trip to Cirencester Town.
"It's about us, not about them, we're trying to help them out," Yates told BBC Gloucestershire.
"There's no way I can take seven people to the club, so they're probably competing for one place, maybe two."
The seven players who have been training with Cheltenham are Will Grocutt, Jacob Rowe, Jorges Lopes, Gary Mulligan, Jared Wilson, Alex Forde and Josh Klyne-Davis.
Striker Mulligan, 25, is the best known of the group with over 100 appearances during a two-and-a-half year spell with Gillingham.
Yates confirmed he is still searching for a centre-half and centre-forward, but maintains he is still happy to be patient as he goes about filling the last few places in his squad.
"It's not about now, it's about four weeks' time and beyond, so we'll keep looking and we'll keep making sure we get the right one," he said.
"We've assembled a young squad, it's not full of star names, it's not full of big hitters, but we've got a good group who've worked their socks off."
