Martin Hayes says he will learn more about his Dover side when they meet lesser opposition in pre-season action.
The Blue Square South side lost 2-0 to League One outfit Colchester in their first friendly on Saturday.
But the Athletic boss told BBC Radio Kent: "It'll be nice to see how they are against Faversham or when it gets edgy against Maidstone and Margate.
"That's when you find out about your players because they're not all nice pretty games in Blue Square South."
Hayes added: "If it gets ugly, can we still get the results?
"I'm certainly going to find out more over the next two or three weeks."
