Adaggio rejoins Redditch as Gardiner signs six players

Blue Square North

Former Worcester City striker Marco Adaggio has rejoined Redditch United, as manager Matt Gardiner completes six more summer signings.

The 22-year-old spent a month on loan with the Reds last season.

"I think the fans will be happy we've got him back," Gardiner told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

Adaggio is joined by former City team-mates Jordan Fitzpatrick and Kevin Spencer as well as Luke Keen, Alex Woodhouse and Matt Smith.

Adaggio said: "I didn't come for the money with it being tight here.

"I really enjoyed my loan spell at Redditch, I thought it was a well-structured club.

"I was happy with the way I could play quite freely in my role and played with a smile on my face.

"I wanted to play in the Conference North and Redditch is a stepping stone for my career.

"I'd like to help the club out, score as many goals as I can, but to then possibly move into full-time again.

"I'm very hungry for that. I can feel it in my blood.

"Every day I wake up and think how can I improve myself and make myself a better player."

Gardiner added "Hats off to him, he had considerable offers from other clubs.

"He decided instead to play at this level and I'm really pleased he's chosen football for the right reasons.

Adaggio will team up with two other former Worcester City players, defender Kevin Spencer and midfielder Jordan Fitzpatrick.

Midfielders Luke Keen and Alex Woodhouse and young striker Matt Smith, who has recently returned to the country after spending time at university in the United States, have also agreed terms at the Valley Stadium club.

"I think it's great there are so many new faces," added Gardiner.

"My predecessor Gary Whild did an unbelievable job and I played under him twice but unfortunately the majority of the players wanted to move on at the end of last season so I've had to start from scratch."

The Reds boss has brought in 14 players in two weeks as he looks to rebuild his squad for the new season.

"I've concentrated on getting the spine of the team as strong as possible with the means I've got to work with and at this stage I'm pretty happy," Gardiner said.

"The atmosphere is so good and the attitude in training has been excellent. They've gelled well."
