AFC Telford run rule over ex-Walsall midfielder Davies

Richard Davies
Davies was handed his first professional contract in 2008

Former Walsall midfielder Richard Davies is training with AFC Telford United in a bid to gain a contract, BBC Radio Shropshire understands.

The 20-year-old - brother of Bolton Wanderers' Mark Davies - was released by the Saddlers in June.

Davies made his debut for Walsall in January 2009 against Swindon Town.

He only made three first-team appearances in League One but was a regular in the club's reserve team at the Banks's Stadium.

Davies came through Walsall's centre of excellence and youth academy into the first team.

He is well known to Telford coach John Psaras, who spent 18 years with the Saddlers working in the youth set-up and, briefly, with the reserves.

Psaras is part of new manager Andy Sinton's backroom team at the Blue Square Bet North club, along with assistant manager Darren Read.
