Robbie Garvey has resigned as manager of Blue Square South side Braintree Town, after the side failed to make the promotion play-offs.
The Iron missed out on the final day of the season when they lost at home to Newport County.
His assistant Jason Broom has also left the club, who had to settle for a seventh-placed finish.
"I had a disagreement with the chairman about the direction of the club," Garvey told BBC Essex.
The former Dagenham and Redbridge coach had just finished his first season in charge at Cressing Road.
"I felt that with the addition of a couple of players we could be up there again next season, not necessarily the play-offs but maybe win it," he continued.
"The budget for next season would be less than what I had this year and I didn't want this lingering over the summer so thought it best to make a decision now."
