Little pleased with 'deserved' point for Gainsborough
Little felt his side looked more solid defensively than in recent games
Gainsborough Trinity manager Brian Little praised his side's defensive efforts in their 0-0 draw at Southport in Blue Square North.
The Blues held firm against the hosts and could have won when Andrew Boyce's header was cleared off the line.
Little told BBC Lincolnshire: "I think we deserved a point to be honest.
"They put a lot of pressure on us in the second half, there were a lot of balls into the box but we defended really well."
Little felt a new central defensive pairing of Boyce and Gavin Cowan, who was making his debut for Gainsborough, worked well.
"We've got a good combination there, that's far more solid than we've been for a length of time and it's important that we have people like that in there," he said.
"There were a couple of occasions in the first half when I thought we might sneak it, but they turned it on in the second half, put us under pressure and in the end I'm pleased to get a point."
Elsewhere in Lincolnshire, in the Unibond Premier Division, Spencer Weir-Daley netted a hat-trick as Boston united beat bottom side Durham City 4-1 to go second in the table. Ryan Semple was also on target for the Pilgrims on his debut.
In the Unibond First Division South, Ben Garrick struck twice as Lincoln United beat Willenhall Town 3-1 at Ashby Avenue to stretch their unbeaten run to seven games. The Whites' third goal came from Matt O'Halloran.
Stamford beat Cammell Laird 3-0 thanks to goals from Danny Matson, Dan Cotton and Lee Beeson, while Ben Saunders was on target for Grantham Town as they drew 1-1 with struggling Quorn at the Meres.
That point for Quorn means Spalding United are now 12 points from safety, after the Tulips lost 5-0 at home to leaders Mickleover Sports, with all the goals coming in the first half.
