Farsley hope the doors will not be locked at Throstle Nest

The Football Conference have charged Farsley Celtic with failing to fulfil their league fixture at AFC Telford.

Administrators overseeing Farsley's finances turned down the only existing offer for the Blue Square North side on Tuesday and called the game off.

The Palmer-Farrell consortium still hopes to complete a deal but the club faces closure if a buyer is not found.

Celtic, who have seven days to respond to the charge, are currently mid-table despite a 10-point deduction.

The club is reported to owe around £750,000 to creditors.

Additionally, any purchaser must agree a fee with the administrators for their services, which Farsley solicitor James Moore says is the main sticking point.

He told BBC Radio Leeds: "The game has been called off but we are still hoping to agree a deal with the administrators in the next few days.

"We are confident the structure of the offer complies with Conference rules but the administrators aren't happy with it, or feel they can get a better offer.

"The next 48 hours are vital. I don't think the administrators will trade the club beyond this week and the next offer will be the absolute final offer. The consortium have put in all the money that they've got available.

"We need the administrators to agree a fee for their costs for the administration and that's what we haven't yet got agreed."

If no subsequent bid succeeds, or the club is expelled from the Conference for failing to fulfil the fixture, a reformed club would apply for membership of the Unibond League First Division North next season.
