Alfreton Town boss Russ O'Neill wants a play-off run
Alfreton Town assistant manager Russ O'Neill wants his side to put together a run to ensure they reach the Blue Square North play-off places.
The Reds halted a run of three league defeats with a 4-0 win over Hyde United on Saturday.
But three days later they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Matlock Town in the Derbyshire Senior Cup.
O'Neill told the club website: "I know the fans are disappointed about that, but so are we."
Last season, the Reds began their play-off run with a 5-0 home win over Hucknall Town on Boxing Day and finished third in the league but lost to Telford United.
"We now have just the league to concentrate on, but we have half of the campaign left in which to make our mark and we have the experience of last season's achievement to call on.
"We need to put another good run together - we started the job last Saturday against Hyde.
"The players put in the sort of performance we now need to be producing regularly - it is up to them to keep doing exactly the same things as they did last weekend and they will know there will be plenty more competition for places over the next few weeks."
O'Neill said the club are expecting to sign a proven quality left-sided defender from another Blue Square North club in time for Saturday's trip to Solihull Moors.
