Paul Cook scored twice for Wroxham helping them through to the next round
It was good to see Wroxham give Norfolk football a boost at the weekend by progressing to the fourth round of the FA Vase.
With all the doom and gloom surrounding King's Lynn at the moment the county desperately needed a shot in the arm and The Yachtsmen came up trumps.
Paul Cook hit a brace and Steve Spriggs got the other goal in a 3-1 win at Flackwell Heath. It puts Wroxham through to the last 32 of the competition so we're obviously getting toward the business end of things.
Unfortunately, the draw hasn't been terribly kind as they are away again to Northern Counties East League Premier side Armthorpe Welfare on 16 January.
Kirkley and Pakefield, who also made it to the fourth round with a comfortable 4-0 win at Hoddesdon, have an intriguing tie at fellow Ridgeons Premier Division side Needham Market.
As for The Linnets, it appears only a miracle can save them now.
Just three players remain, that includes two goalkeepers, and it seems inevitable they will be wound up this week. Should that be the case then the right people need to be put in place immediately to start planning for the future.
If manager Carl Heggs agrees to stay and be part of that then, in my view, that would be a massive boost - the danger would be that another club has seen what he is capable of and take him away.
I was at The Wellesley on Saturday to see Great Yarmouth Town stay top of Division One with a 4-0 win over Downham Town. Just one question though - where are the supporters?
A meagre gate of 42 turned out to see The Bloaters maintain their quest for promotion which doesn't stack up.
Paul Tong has built up a decent squad, with a good mix of experience and youthful exuberance, and has them playing some decent stuff. They've also proved they can push the likes of Wroxham all the way in the Norfolk Senior Cup so performances certainly merit better support.
Unfortunately, the weather had an impact on the weekends quarter finals of the Senior Knock-Out Cup.
Two were called off due to waterlogged pitches but congratulations go to Mattishall and Horsford United who have taken their place in the last four with wins over Hempnall and Watton United respectively.
The semi-final draw looks like this: Blofield United or Cromer Town v Wroxham Reserves or Beccles Town; Horsford United v Mattishall. Those ties will take place on Saturday, 27 February.
