Trinity through after shoot-out

Gainsborough Trinity

Gainsborough Trinity needed extra time and penalties to overcome North Ferriby United in their FA Trophy replay.

Trinity missed their first two spot-kicks after the tie at the Northolme finished 3-3 after 120 minutes.

But Phil Barnes saved two penalties before Darren Dunning netted the final spot-kick to win the shootout 3-2.

Manager Brian Little told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "We started well but gave really poor goals away all night, it was a crazy game."

Little added: "It seemed to be one of the longest nights I've had in football.

"I'm pleased we're through but I can't say I enjoyed the game."

Gainsborough went ahead after eight minutes through Darryn Stamp and held their advantage until the 86th minute when Gary Bradshaw equalised from the penalty spot.

Nathan Peat restored the Blues' lead with another penalty three minutes later, only for Kevin Larvin to pull the Unibond Premier Division side level with the final kick of the 90 minutes.

Trinity took the lead for the third time in the match when Wes Parker scored mid-way through the first period of extra time, but Larvin netted his second a minute after the break to make it 3-3.

Gainsborough will now visit Southport in the first round proper of the FA Trophy.
