Craig Wilding was pressed into service in Worcester's defence.
Worcester City suffered their second home defeat in three days despite an improved display against Chelmsford.
The visitors led through Ricky Modeste before Ron Davies, who came on for the injured Tom Kemp, equalised in first-half injury time.
Worcester's performance was better than against Welling on Saturday but they were sentenced to defeat by a Ricky Holmes goal 12 minutes from time.
Worcester stay 19th in Blue Square South, just a point clear of trouble.
The game was played out in front of just 516 spectators at St George's Lane - City's second lowest attendance of the season.
Worcester boss Richard Dryden told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "We dominated for long periods but we got hit by a sucker quick throw, we could have stopped the cross before it came in.
"With Kempy going off there was a bit of a gap. What Craig Wilding did at the back was decent, but not being a centre-half we left ourselves a bit vulnerable at the back."
Dryden knows that two home defeats on the trot is a big blow to Worcester's hopes of moving away from the relegation zone.
"It's obvious we were looking at between four and six points," he said. "To get nothing is disappointing, but this was a step-up after we were beaten embarrassingly on Saturday."
