Telford honour ex-player Howarth

Neil Howarth
Howarth also played for Macclesfield and Cheltenham

Neil Howarth has been revealed as the latest ex-player to be inducted into AFC Telford United's Hall of Fame.

Howarth, who is assistant manager at Kidderminster, was the only player to stick with Telford following the old club's demise in 2004.

He helped AFC Telford United win promotion from the Unibond North in their first season.

"Winning the play-off final was the best moment I ever had in football," he said after the 2-1 win over Kendal.

"We had no players at the start of the season, but just one defeat in the last 20 games or so was just reward for people at Telford who'd put so much into the club."

Central defender Howarth played 37 games for Telford United and 68 for the newly formed club, scoring four goals - but it is for his loyalty to the Telford cause that supporters still hold him such high regard.

Howarth follows Les Wilson and Eddie Hogan on the list of this season's legends, with one more due to be announced before the awards night on 18 November.
