Accrington Stanley 2-0 Shrewsbury

Accrington sealed their place in the Northern Section quarter-final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy with a well-earned win over Shrewsbury.

Shrews keeper Chris Neal tipped over Billy Kee's 25-yard volley while Stanley's Phil Edwards stopped a Lewis Neal shot in the first half.

Gary King put Accrington ahead from 10 yards after Michael Symes teed him up.

Dean Winnard, who later blocked a Nathan Elder shot, scored the second from Bobby Grant's cross.

Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Simpson told BBC Radio Shropshire:

"We were poor - we've suddenly gone from a team that could recognise danger and a team that could create opportunities to be flat and disappointing.

"The first half was a bit of a non-entity, and in the second half we didn't get started at all.

"We conceded the first goal, and at no point can I say that we showed any spark - and that's a real concern."
