Worcester City manager Richard Dryden is hoping to have a new player on board in time for the Blue Square South home match against Thurrock.
Dryden told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "I was hoping to get one in by Saturday and that would put me close to where we have got to be on the money side of it.
"I have been offered a few players and a few have turned me down but we are desperate to get the right ones."
City have recently started a revival after a terrible start to the season.
A 4-0 home win over Dorchester Town was followed by a setback when they were beaten 3-1 at Weston-super-Mare, but City then hit back to earn a battling point from a 0-0 draw in their last outing at Braintree Town.
Teams like Thurrock and Basingstoke are up there but I think every team in this league is beatable
Worcester manager Richard Dryden
"It was definitely a good point down at Braintree, although we could have won it," said Dryden.
"But we could also have lost it so we will take a point as that probably what we deserved, and probably what they deserved.
"The league position doesn't really look that great but for the sake of an extra point we would be up five or six places, so it is very tight," he added.
Thurrock will arrive at St George's Lane in fifth place in the Blue Square South table, so the City boss is expecting a tough match.
But he feels there is little to choose between the top sides and the rest of the division, so sees no reason why his team should not build on their recent improved form.
"They are a good side but it is all up in the air this league," he said.
"Teams like Thurrock and Basingstoke are up there but I think every team in this league is beatable."
There will be coverage for Worcester City's match against Thurrock on Saturday as part of Sport on Saturday from 1400 BST on BBC Hereford and Worcester.
