Hereford brought a run of 16 games without a win to an end as they earned victory over Accrington.
The home side took the lead when on-loan Leicester teenager Craig King struck following a flick on from central defender Darren Jones.
Marc Pugh was then felled in the box and a penalty awarded but Stanley's Ian Dunbavin saved Pugh's spot-kick.
Ryan Valentine made amends for Pugh's miss, rising to head home from a Mark Marshall corner to seal the win.
Hereford United manager John Trewick told BBC Hereford and Worcester:
"It has been a long time coming but I think we deserved it.
"I thought the three new lads added a spark to us and Craig King was outstanding with a lot of energy and purpose.
"I am just pleased to get the first win on the board and you just hope that it lifts a bit of the anxiety from the players."
