AFC Telford unifies town - Carter

Lee Carter stepped up from the terraces to become chairman

As AFC Telford United celebrates its fifth anniversary, chairman Lee Carter says the club has helped unify the whole town.

He told BBC Radio Shropshire: "We're the single thing that's brought people together behind the name of Telford.

"Telford's not always felt like a united place, more like six places joined by roundabouts.

"But this club has brought the likes of South Telford, Woodside, Dawley or the club's Wellington home base together."

AFC Telford United started five years ago as a new community club, after the old Telford United went bust in 2004.

"We could never have envisaged how far we would come in five years, and how fans from all over Telford would back our endeavours," Carter added.
