Stafford Rangers are appealing for public donations to try and keep the cash-strapped club afloat.
The Blue Square North side are looking for 250 people to donate £200 each to make up half of a rescue fund after one fan came up with a £50,000 donation.
Former striker Mick Cullerton told BBC Radio Stoke: "It's a positive move by the people running the club and I hope they get the response they need."
The club was formed more than 130 years ago and has twice won the FA Trophy.
