Worcester City's winless run in Blue Square South extended to 10 games when they went down 1-0 at Eastleigh.
City manager Richard Dryden told BBC Hereford and Worcester City had to thank their goalkeeper Danny McDonnell for keeping them in the game.
"Probably in the last 10 games where we have seriously struggled, this was probably the best team we have played.
"They had power, pace and they were physically strong and Danny was absolutely tremendous today," he said.
The goal that settled the match came after 18 minutes when Eastleigh's Barnet loanee Ashley Carew met a far post cross to beat McDonnell with a close-range header.
We have one game left at home and it would be nice to finish with a win
Worcester boss Richard Dryden
Dryden felt this had been another frustrating performance by his struggling side and he was especially annoyed by the lack of quality deliveries from good attacking positions.
"They were a good side but 1-0 is a funny old game and Dins [Matt Dinsmore] had a chance to put us ahead and then a great chance at the end to level it," he said.
"But for some reason nobody wants to stick the ball into the box with any quality, or to stick the ball in the box at all.
"We get into good areas to deliver it and while they got the forward and wide quickly we didn't," he added.
City's season has been drifting for some weeks and Dryden has already begun planning for next season.
Despite the recent poor run, the City boss says he will be impressing on his players the need to end the season on a high note.
"Again we caused our own problems by not putting a decent ball into the box or down the sides," he said.
"We have one game left at home and it would be nice to finish with a win."
