Charles promises summer clear out

Charles has seen Trinity take only four points from their last 10 matches

Gainsborough Trinity manager Steve Charles has said he will overhaul his squad in the summer, after a 1-0 defeat by Hyde United on Monday.

Chris Simm scored the only goal at the Northolme after 70 minutes to extend Trinity's winless run to 10 matches.

Charles told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "It's not acceptable and I can only apologise to the fans.

"It's clear that the squad are not good enough to do well at this level. I've got a big job to do in the summer."

Luke Beckett, Lewis McMahon, Chris Hall and Nathan Peat are contracted to the club for next season, but Charles admitted that many other players' futures were not secure.

"In this league if you don't perform against any team on the day you can get turned over. It's happened again today and it's not acceptable," he said.

"Fans don't want to be paying money to watch that week-in week-out. We need more desire and more heart, players that have got that hunger, and if we can find better we're aware that we do need to strengthen.

"I know some fans want me out of here but I've got belief in my own ability and the backroom staff that we can turn things round."
