Farsley Celtic 1-2 Redditch Utd

Blue Square North

Jack Byrne netted a second-half winner to earn Redditch a vital 2-1 win at fellow Blue Square North strugglers Farsley Celtic.

Gary Hay's stunning finish gave the visitors the lead after half an hour, only for Mark Jackson to level the match six minutes later.

However the points were sealed when Byrne headed home Asa Charlton's cross on 53 minutes.

The result leaves Redditch 18th in the Blue Square North table.

Reds assistant coach Danny Bishop told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "It was a good victory although, performance-wise, there wasn't really much in the game.

"We were disappointed to concede a sloppy goal after scoring such a great individual goal from Gary Hay."

Bishop added that the coaching staff had been pleased by the way in which the side had lifted themselves after the disappointment of conceding the equaliser.

"In the second half we showed a lot of character and that is obviously pleasing.

"Also it will give us a good foot in the door for the game away at Blyth on Tuesday and for the rest of the fixtures.

This was a massive result because it also drags Farsley back into it

Danny Bishop

"Hopefully now we can get ourselves away from this relegation zone," he added.

United now lie three points clear of the relegation zone and hold at least one game in hand over the bottom three clubs.

They also are just one point behind Farsley, who occupy 17th spot.

"This was a massive result because it also drags Farsley back into it," said Bishop.

"They are a side that has fallen big time down the table from a comfortable mid-table position."
