AFC Telford United could not capitalise on dropped points for Southport and Tamworth as they were beaten 1-0 at Workington.
The Cumbrian side scored the only goal of the game with 21 minutes left when on-loan striker Gareth Arnison rounded Bucks keeper Ryan Young.
Telford assistant boss Larry Chambers told BBC Radio Shropshire: "We raise ourselves for big games.
"But we can't seem to come away to tough places and get a result."
Despite the loss, Telford remain fourth in the league table, just five points behind new leaders Gateshead.
Tamworth were knocked off the top, having to come from two down to claim a 2-2 draw at Vauxhall Motors. And Southport could also only draw 0-0 at King's Lynn.
