Webb could return to Chelmsford

Chelmsford City

Outgoing Chelmsford City chairman Peter Webb has not ruled out returning to the role in the future.

Webb stepped down from his role at the Blue Square South club earlier this week because of ongoing differences over the financial future of the club.

Webb told BBC Essex: "I would consider a challenge to remove the current board members and take over, providing local business are willing to support me.

"But the wise thing to do for the time being is to sensibly step aside."

Webb explained he had left the role due to a dispute on finances with the rest of the board.

"I've been very mindful of the debts the club have been accumulating for the more recent times to sustain their position on the park," he said.

"I've constantly said there is a major need in investment in the business of the club to sustain the sort of level of team efforts that we're seeing on the park on the moment.

"I haven't seen that investment coming and I've been getting rather concerned about that."

Chelmsford City have told BBC Essex that Peter Webb, in their view, remains chairman until the appointment of Mansell Wallace is ratified at a board meeting on 19 February.
