Charles blasts Trinity collapse

Steve Charles
Charles was unhappy with his side's heavy defeat

Gainsborough manager Steve Charles has described his side's 5-0 defeat at Workington in the Blue Square North on Saturday as a "complete disaster".

Trinity were hoping to move closer to the play-off places, but were soundly beaten and also had Ross Greenwood sent off late on.

"I feel sorry for everyone who's travelled a long way to watch that," Charles told BBC Radio Lincolnshire.

"The conditions were difficult, but it's the same for both teams."

"We can't use the conditions as an excuse. It needs more than just good football sometimes to win games," he added.

Trinity now have two home matches in Blue Square North and Charles is hoping for better displays.

"There's two tough games against Alfreton and Droylsden now, but back at home. We've got to put this result to bed and work hard in training and make sure we play better next week."
