Richard Dryden felt his side did enough to have taken a point from Newport
Adie Harris's freak seventh-minute goal condemned Worcester City to a 1-0 Blue Square South defeat at Newport County.
Harris took a free kick from wide out and it eluded everyone in the crowded area before beating Danny McDonnell for what proved the game's only goal.
"I'd love to say 'I want my lads at the back to go and clear it', " said Worcester boss Richard Dryden. "But it was a decent ball in.
"And I'm still trying to work out how we haven't scored in the second half."
City thought they had snatched a dramatic late equaliser when Ollie Barnes' header was scrambled off the Newport line in stoppage time at the end of the match.
But Dryden felt that, on the balance of play, County could have had few complaints had that late effort gone in.
"I thought it was in and it was probably what we deserved at least for our second-half display," he said.
"It was the old game of two halves - we had to dig in for the first half and in the second half we had them camped in their own half for long periods."
The sides meet again at St George's Lane on New Year's Day and Richard Dryden is looking forward to trying to set the record straight.
"They've got a good squad of players but, having said that, we've got a small squad and we should have got something out of the game today."
