Worcester City manager Richard Dryden has admitted this week's cut in wages for him and his players by the club's board had come as a shock.
But Dryden, whose side face Bognor Regis on Saturday, told BBC Hereford and Worcester he and his players must now concentrate on events on the field.
"We have kids, mortgages. It's Christmas and it's all come at once," said Dryden.
"We need to get through the next couple of games and get through the turmoil."
Worcester also lost two players and one of the back-room team due to cuts, but Dryden said the fans can lift the atmosphere around the club.
"If I was paying my money on Saturday I would want to see the players perform," he said.
"The players now know that to keep the club going everyone has to make a sacrifice. We are trying our best to help everyone out.
"Most people in the league know what sort of budget we are on, we are not up there that's for certain.
"Depending who we keep and who goes will determine where we finish in the league.

"The chairman came in and sat down with the players for an hour, full credit to him, and explained what has to go on if we are to survive as a club.
"We know what we have to do. We have to get over it and start getting ready for Saturday, and we need the fans to come and get behind us."
There will be coverage of Worcester City's home game with Bognor Regis in Sport on Saturday on BBC Hereford and Worcester.
