Worcester face crunch bank talks

Worcester City chairman Anthony Hampson has said the club's immediate future should be clearer following a meeting with the bank on Monday.

The meeting comes only days after the club's board confirmed the players and staff would have to take pay cuts.

Hampson told BBC Hereford and Worcester it would prove to be a key day in defining City's future.

"Every day seems to be a massive day at Worcester City, but Monday is probably the most significant," he said.

"I'm expecting some directors will be resigning, but they were always going to be retiring in January.

"The way forward is probably for them to step down earlier than that so that we can bring new blood on to the board and ensure the survival of the club."

Hampson only took over as chairman at St George's Lane in November and he admitted the job has been far tougher than he had ever envisaged.

He confirmed that the club needed a sizeable investment in the short term if it is to continue.

"We need about 80,000 in the short term so if there are any kind individuals out there we would be very grateful to receive donations," he said.

"We've had something like 500-600 worth [on Saturday]."

Hampson has not ruled out the possibility of the club going into administration.

"I think we have to consider all alternatives - it wouldn't be the end of the world for football in the city," he said.

"It's one of the alternatives. It wouldn't be a pleasant one as we would lose points and would probably be relegated, which would mean the sacrifices of the players would be squandered.

"There is another disadvantage in going down that route because the sale of the ground would be put in jeopardy because there is obviously a contract with Worcester City Football Club."
