Gary Whild is confident his side can play far better in Tuesday's replay
Redditch United manager Gary Whild was disappointed by his side's lack of tempo in the 1-1 FA Trophy draw with Cammell Laird at Valley Stadium.
Whild told BBC Hereford & Worcester his side's showing had been well below what he has come to expect.
"I thought in the second half we were nowhere near where we have been in the last few weeks," he said.
"But we are still in and hopefully on Tuesday we can make sure we get through to the next round."
The Reds took a first-half lead when Lee Ayres met a Danny Edwards cross with a firm header on 36 minutes.
But Cammell Laird regrouped and few would have denied them the equaliser given to them by Alex Hay who volleyed home from the edge of the area five minutes after the interval.
They are entitled to protest if they don't agree with the merger - that's their prerogative
Redditch boss Gary Whild on the fans' demonstration
Whild said the only real positive to come from the game was that he knows his players can do far better in the replay on Merseyside.
"In the second half we didn't get any tempo to the game and allowed them a goal that gave them a lot of incentive," he said.
"It's always hard then in cup ties - we were on the back foot for the whole of the second half.
"On Tuesday we've got to get up there and show them what we are all about and get back to where we have been over the last six or seven weeks or so," he added.
The game was somewhat overshadowed by a protest from some Redditch fans opposed to the proposed merger with rivals Bromsgrove Rovers.
Whild said everyone is entitled to have their say, but admitted to being disappointed by the actions of a few.
"They are entitled to protest if they don't agree with the merger - that's their prerogative," he said.
"It's a shame that a lot of it becomes a bit personal - I think that's very disappointing, but that's up to them the way they conduct themselves."
