Cugley cool on Folkestone's rise

Non League

Folkestone Invicta manager Neil Cugley has played down their superb start to the season which has seen them move to joint-top of Ryman One South.

Cugley's side are level on points with Kingstonian following their 2-0 win over Metropolitan Police.

"I never really look at the league table until 12 games in," said Cugley.

"So give it two or three more games and if we are still joint-top then, that would be ideal - even better than we thought we could do."

Jimmy Jackson opened the scoring for Folkestone at the end of the first half. Jimmy Dryden doubled their lead with a second half penalty.

Elsewhere in the league, Ashford Town almost completed a dramatic comeback, but lost 3-2 to Chipstead.

They were 3-0 down and were reduced to 10 men through injury, but scored two goals while a man down and had enough chances to get a point.

But manager Steve Lovell told BBC Radio Kent he still wasn't impressed.

"It was a comeback but we left it too late," he said. "It was our first half performance that cost us the game - very lacklustre and not like us at all.

"Saying that in the last quarter of an hour we could have actually won the game."

Whitstable are off the bottom of Ryman One South thanks to two goals from David Cory which saw them beat Corinthian Casuals 2-1.

In Ryman North Chatham Town drew one-all at Great Wakering Rovers.

And in a thrilling Kent league Cup tie - Tunbridge Wells beat Erith and Belvedere 6-4 to win 8-6 on aggregate.
