Dexter averaged 33 in six games with Kent in the 2008 season |
Middlesex have signed Kent all-rounder Neil Dexter on a two-year contract and have included him in a 15-man squad for the Stanford Super Series in Antigua. The county play three Twenty20 matches, firstly against England on 26 October. Born in Johannesburg, 24-year-old Dexter made his Kent debut in 2005 and is registered as a Kolpak player. He spent a loan spell at Essex this year. Shaun Udal captains the squad but there is no place for Ed Smith, who began the 2008 season as the Middlesex skipper. Smith was injured during the Twenty20 campaign and did not play for the remainder of the season. Owais Shah is likely to be facing Middlesex for England, while Australian Dirk Nannes has returned to his state side Victoria. Middlesex have recruited Neil Carter on loan from Warwickshire for the rest of the year, and have retained the services of overseas players Tyron Henderson and Murali Kartik for the week-long Twenty20 event. Regarding the acquisition of Dexter, who made a top-score of 71 in his three Championship matches for Essex, Udal said: "It's a really exciting signing." And Middlesex chief executive Vinny Codrington added: "We believe he is a major addition to our talented young squad." There will be live ball-by-ball commentary of all of Middlesex's games on the BBC London website. Middlesex squad for Stanford Series: Shaun Udal (c), Neil Carter, Neil Dexter, Steven Finn, Billy Godleman, Tyron Henderson, Ed Joyce, Murali Kartik, Dawid Malan, Eoin Morgan, Tim Murtagh, David Nash, Alan Richardson, Ben Scott, Andrew Strauss.
