Redditch United manager Gary Whild felt his side were unfortunate not to come away from their Blue Square North game at Vauxhall Motors with a win.

Scott Rickards gave the Reds an early lead but Rio Nelson rescued a 1-1 draw for the hosts.

Whild told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "You look at the two goalkeepers and Vauxhall's was certainly the busiest.

"We're a bit disappointed [with the result], but we're glad to have got something out of the game."

Rickards gave Whild's side the perfect start when he put them ahead after only nine minutes with a low shot from just inside the area.

Redditch goalkeeper Danny Lewis was seldom troubled by the home team's attack, and the Valley Stadium side looked as though they were on course for what would have been their first Blue Square North win of the new season.

But the Vauxhall equaliser came out of the blue - substitute Nelson collected a pass on the edge of the area and then looped a shot beyond Lewis to lebel in the 66th minute.

Whild was pleased by his side's response to this setback as it was the Reds that looked the more likely to go on and find the winning goal.

"We had a few chances there late on from one of which their goalkeeper has pulled off a really good save.

"I'm a bit disappointed as we could have maybe pinched all three points, but overall I'm pleased the point away from home."

The Reds will now spend the week preparing for their Bank Holiday double-header in which they will host AFC Telford United at Valley Stadium on Saturday, 23 August, before heading to Tamworth two days later.
