| Saturday, 9 November, 2002, 17:50 GMT Gravesend 0-0 Farnborough Gravesend and Farnborough - level on points in the middle of the Conference table - could not be separated after a tough contest ended in a goalless draw. The visitors started brightly and were denied twice in the opening stages by Gravesend goalkeeper Paul Wilkerson, who first blocked Chris Piper's strike with his legs before turning a 25-yard Tony Taggart free-kick round the post. Gravesend failed to trouble Town keeper Tony Pennock in the first half-hour, but Hamid Barr did manage to hit the target following a corner, with Pennock equal to it. Both sides battled to gain the upper hand in the second-half, with a total of six players booked. Gravesend raised their game and Jimmy Jackson came closest to breaking the deadlock after 71 minutes when he found room inside the box to fire in a left-foot shot which came back off the woodwork. However, Farnborough almost snatched it in the closing stages with Wilkerson again standing in their way as he parried efforts from Lenny Piper and Rocky Baptiste. Gravesend: Wilkerson, Lee, Barnett, Burton, Nutter, Barr, Jackson, Bentley, Coyle, Wilkins, Stadhart. Subs: Turner, Sodje, Carter, Booth, Grace. Farnborough: Pennock, Warner, Bunce, Laker, Gregory, Chris Piper, Carroll, Holloway, Taggart, Lenny Piper, Charlery. Subs: Lee, Osborn, Butterworth, Baptiste, Annon. Referee: K Stroud (Dorset) |
